Missing teeth can be replaced with several types of restorations at Watsonville Family Dental. Out of these, dental implants give you the most natural smile and allow you to eat and speak without holding back.
You don’t have to worry about dental implants working loose or slipping out of your mouth, and you don’t need to get them replaced either – a big saving in terms of time, effort, and costs. Most of our patients report that they experience minimal discomfort during and after the procedure.

Dental implant surgery takes a few months to complete, and the dentist carefully monitors healing and progress.
After administering anesthesia, our dentist will make a careful incision in the gum. Once the bone is exposed, the dentist will drill a hole in the bone and place the implants.
Even after the screw has been implanted, the patient will still have a gap where the tooth is missing as only the root has been replaced. The jawbone slowly integrates and grows over the implant, and the titanium post completely fuses into the jawbone.
The dentist will again re-expose the bone in order to place the abutment (false teeth or crown) onto the screw. The abutment just above the gum line and is visible when you open your mouth. Once the abutment is placed over the implant, the gum tissue is then placed around but not over the abutment.
Depending on the case, your dentist in Watsonville may place the abutment when the implant is surgically placed in the jawbone, and the patient will not need the second surgical procedure.
Some patients dislike this and prefer getting the abutment with a second surgery. Once your gums heal (this will take a few weeks or months), the dentist will take measurements to fabricate the crowns.
